Linda Robinson--Are you talking about the house where Bob and Enid Ewashen used to live?  If so I might be able to find out who owned it before they did.  When I was little, I believe it was owned by the Frank Rossie(?) family.

Ron Toyota-

pretty tacky using our reunion site to promote yourself for Mayor of Creston.

H. F. (Herb) Legg (1964)

Good for you, Linda .  I couldn't agree more. yes

Definitely NOT what I contributed $100 for (nor to publicize upcoming Legion socials.....see previous posting 309).   Maybe we'll all receive a tax receipt for political contribution(s).

Rgrds,

Ron Toyota (1965)

Thank you for personal thoughts  to  my previous message, I will take your comments to our next committee meeting and perhaps offer my resignation !

I apologize to those who were offended BUT I do not consider "serving your community" a political position.

I am proud to have been involved in the growth the Town of Creston has experienced in the last 6 years (check out my website:  voterontoyota.com) !

Also, I am a local Royal Canadian Legion member and I support their functions and their efforts to survive and keep a small portion of our history (the building and the memories therein) alive !

Ron

Unfortunately I was unable to attend our class reunion but having read the comments w/ respect to useage of this website as a forum to promote and/or inform about upcoming events & issues pertaining to Creston is to me a vital part of keeping us former Crestonites up to date & I felt obligated to respond. Social media is now part of our lives & can keep us close to not only our family & friends but also the world at large. Ron your work both on this committee & as mayor has been exceptional. Your dedication unwavering! Good for you for once again putting your name forth & also supporting Karen & Joanna, a great team! I also did not know that the 100.00 was to include this website. Were we supposed to pay for utilizing this website even if we couldn't be there? I do not have to reimburse other sites that I have involvement with & they would be appalled at the insinuation to do so. Once again would have loved to have been there & have enjoyed the message forum, pictures & updates. Thanks for the committees hard work.

H. F. (Herb) Legg (1964)

Further to Message 318:

Apology acknowledged.

And 'serving your community' is not always a political position - UNTIL the casting of regulated voting is involved.(via assorted provincial ministries, Municipal Affairs for instance).

Will take note that this website is no longer a 'Class Reunion' venue, perhaps it never was, and is now a 'Community Link'.

Pat Whitford (Paterson) (1965)

Herb, the website was created as our reunion website and will continue to be our reunion website.  Personally, my thoughts have moved ahead to the next reunion event and this website will be my go-to for new ideas from all classmates as to how we can put this event together to make it bigger and better than the last one!

11/02/14 12:27 PM #322

Pat Zackodnik (Kilback) (1965)

Pat, as a committe member I am 100% behind another reunion and think the website  has given us many memories both for those of us lucky enough to be there and for those who were not able to make it

Farrel Palmer (1966)

After reading the first comment stateing that by Ron putting forth a request for votes for re-election was "tacky" , I had to take time not to respond quickly, but to calm down. ya, I was seething! tacky????

Working for politicians most of my life I have learned many things.. Two of which I'd like to share with Ron.

1. to be a good and successful poitician you must have.. what I call a kind thick skin and ..

2. do not do anything rash.

Do not resign from the committee.. you have done nothing wrong or unethical.

I was delighted when you decided to run for another term and even asking for people to vote for others who you felt were good candidates.

There was nothing wrong with using this forum. I only wish that I could be living there to vote for you.

Ron. Keep up the good work.

Lyn Helme (Gardner) (1965)

As a committee member, I am very thankful that we had both the Mayor(Ron) and the Legion president(Terry) "on our team" along with many others who are active in community life.  It facilitated communication and overall organization of our reunion.

Gaynette Tompkins (1964)

I was most upset that I was unable to attend my 50 year reunion for personal reasons that seem to have cromped up all at once.  I sincerely hope I am able to attend the next one and have truly ejoyed the pictures and all the comments still on  going.  I feel in  this day and age people are allowed to express their opinions but I do not have to agree with them.  The committee put on one of the best if not the best grad reunions ever so I have been told and they are to be commended for their efforts and their commitment to that very success of the reunion.  I truly hope that committee is still in place for the next one.

If we all apologized for our spelling mistakes... this forum would be so full we'd never see the main subject.. but still I feel bad when i do it..lol

Bernie Tipper (1965)

My apologies for not writing this before. The reunion weekend was an absolute blast for Lynne and I. We didn’t know what to expect as it had been almost a half a century since we had seen or talked to our school mates. It was a great decision to attend.

We would like to thank everyone from Creston who participated in planning and working on this project. And special thank you to Pat and Ron for the vision and leadership to see this through to the three day weekend. It was also nice to see the business community participating in it with all the signage to the friendly greeting’s from the store keepers.

The Meet and Greet on Friday at the Legion was a very interesting beginning, we were really glad everyone had name tags. Most people’s looks were somewhat different after fifty years but some were the same, amazing. The decorations were very good and took us back to the school dances. I could have stayed all night reacquainting and guessing who I was talking to. Not enough time to see everyone.

Saturday was the big day!! The hall was beautifully decorated and best of all the stage was full of instruments, amplifiers and speakers. The great supper was served with a large selection of deserts and enough food for second helpings. The caters did a great job. The eulogy with pictures of our class mates who had passed on was very emotional but a reality of our age.  Everyone got a big charge out of the school stories as told by the class mates who may or may not have participated in the mischievous deeds. The main event, “The Ambassadors” They were awesome. This brought back very vivid memories of dances at school and such places as the Wynndel Hall. It was special as Lynne and I met at one of these dances about forty nine years ago. A special thank you to Gene, Ernie and Orla, (Harreson sorry!) this made the weekend complete. They had to have put a great deal of time into this project after all those years. Thank you for the memories. We wished you could have played all night. A special thank you to emcee Roy MacGregor well done.

Sunday came rather quickly; we had breakfast at the Creston Valley Golf Club and again had an opportunity to visit with old class mates. Sadly this brought an end to this very great weekend. Reality is this may be the last time some of us may meet, so thank you to all for providing us this opportunity. For those who were unable to attend I would encourage you to stay connected and be sure to attend if there is another reunion. Our only regret is that we didn’t have time or opportunity to meet everyone. We are back in our home in Costa Rica and often think of that weekend in Creston. We check this website often and on that note we would like to see it kept up and running in perpetuity. If it requires funding to keep it going send out an email and we would be glad to contribute. It is such a great way to contact each other and to stay connected with class mates who may live in faraway places.

Bernie & Lynne Tipper

Terry Biccum (1966)

Just a note to all classmates, the website was brought in to service to unite all classmates for the BEST reunion ever. The website served it's PURPOSE to the utmost. But now that it is over all the local reunion members have crawled back to their usual routines. On that note, I myself very seldom get to see most of them. Advertising Social Functions on this site is extremely valuable, as a lot of classmates who were not legion members, have become members.  I would like to also say that at the last Legion Supper, it was fantastic that approximately 30 classmates showed up and not only supported our dying Legions but had a great meal and and a good time talking about the reunion and how to improve having another even better reunion in the future.

As it is that time of the year, November 11 is just around the corner.  We as Canadians are very lucky. As we do not  have any First World War Veterans and I beleive only about 15 Second World War Veterans left in Creston, it is up to the next generation to carry on the traditions of the Legion. We must REMEMBER if were not for World War Veteran's and those serving members we could have been a third world country. Having been in the military and seen some of these countries, I count my Blessings that I am a proud Canadian.  LEST WE FORGET!!!

Ron Toyota (1965)

Thanks Terry !

Judy and I will be attending on November 11th as we have done for the past 5 plus years.  I do this officially as the Mayor for the Town of Creston, as a Royal Canadian Legion member (kinda wierd when MY PARENTS were in an iinternment camp for 3.5 years, Canadian born but of Japanese decent) and as a citizen remembering the "freedoms we have".

The service is at 10AM then the parade then the terrific "homemade stew" and then visiting with everyone in the lounge after lunch !

PS:  I am looking forward to the November Friday meal (what is the date and time ??)

Hi folks,

For the second time in as many days I'm upset..but this time with myself. It is necessary for me to apologzie for my outburst on a previous message.  I had no right to do that on here.

Just wanted to say that....   I'm very protective of my friends.. in this case Ron.

Also wanted to tell you that the main reason I wanted to attend the reunion was to say thankyou to so many people who had been so very good to me during my 11 years in school there in Creston... unfortunately a back injury, making it impossible to drive kept me at home.  This gratitude has spurred me on in my career and family.

I too will be attending the Memorial Service in Vermillion.. we are so blessed as a country... Thanks Terry

I  also offer my apologies for being tardy in thanking those people whose hard work made the '64, '65, '66 Reunion Weekend the great experience it was. Amazing, how did those 50 years slip by so quickly? So many memories. My only disappointment was that I wish even more people would have been able to attend. I also am wondering would it be possible to obtain a DVD or CD with the eulogy and the class photos on it?

Like Bernie, I check the website often and would be willing to contribute further to ensure the continuation of this wonderful service.I would also contribute to a fund for people who felt that perhaps some of their contribution towards the celebration was being misused.

I also believe that Mayor Ron has nothing to apologize for. As far as I know this is a public forum. Ron is one of the very few people I know who is willing to put  time and energy into improving his hometown and the place where he lives. He is a doer and not a whiner. I am proud to know him and I wish him the best of luck in the upcoming election. Everyone get out there and vote!!!

Just so everyone knows, this is not a paid political announcement.
