Thanks Sandra! It is pretty amazing. They were at a Canadian nominee party last night and etalk TV show said they are going to cover the party on tonight's show. Once you have been nominated I gather you would be voting on future nominees so that is cool for Cam. We have our fingers crossed!

Lorne Truscott

It just occurred to me that  my cousin Herb Dodd would be member of your group, having graduated from PCSS in 1967. I'm sorry to report that he passed away recently at age 65.  He was an attorney in Vancouver, had the distinction of being a Queen's Counsel, but succumbed to early onset Alzheimers.

Sorry to hear of another passing.  As we get older it's something we have to deal with I'm told, but it does not make it easier.  Trust you and your family are well, Lorne

Lorne Truscott mentioned the passing of our classmate, Herb Dodd.
Herb coming to our last reunion was actually a sort of spur of the moment decision at his wife's urging and we are so glad he came, and so glad she encouraged him.
Here is his Obituary from the Advance:

Herbert D. Dodd, Q.C.
September 12, 1949 ~ May 19, 2015

With much sadness, we announce the passing of our dearly loved husband, father, grandfather and brother at the age of 65, due to complications from Alzheimer’s Disease.

Herb was raised in Creston, BC, the son of the late Herbert and Gwendolyn Dodd. He graduated from the University of Victoria and the University of Toronto Law School. For 36 years, until his retirement in 2012, he enjoyed a successful and rewarding legal practice at the Vancouver firm of Farris & Co. He was named Queen's Counsel in 2008.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; daughters Amy (Rob Kushlick) and Melissa (Martin Sheard); son Jamie (Nadya Wilkinson); grandchildren James and Madeline Kushlick, and Nathan and Benjamin Sheard. He is also survived by his sister Lynn Buchanan (Claud); brother Alan Dodd (Sharon), and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

A private Memorial Service for family and friends will be held in the near future.
For people wishing to make a charitable donation in Herb’s name, please consider Paul’s Club, a social and recreational program for those with early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease (www.paulsclub.ca).
The family would also like to thank the staff at the Fair Haven United Church Home for the kind and compassionate care given to Herb.

Ardis Clarkston (MacLeod) (1965)

Regarding the passing of Herb Dodd;  I am Ian MacLeod, husband of Ardis Clarkston ('65).  I too am a Vancouver corporate/business lawyer (now retired - early due to multiple sclerosis) and roughly the same age as Herb.  I had no idea that Herb had Creston roots.  I did quite a bit of work opposite Herb about 20 years ago.  He was a good lawyer and a gentleman to work with. He will be missed. I am sorry to hear of his passing.

Jessie, you're correct.  As we get older, we must say goodbye to family and friends.  We never know who or when, but it's part of the circle of life.  I fondly remember many birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's gatherings with Herb and his family, also with the Truscotts and the Averys, my relatives on my mother's side of the family.  Like most families, the children grew up and went in search of their dreams.  I moved to California in 1974 for the opportunity and the climate.  My biggest regret is that meant short, infrequent visits 'home', often for a funeral, and losing touch with family and high school friends.

Seeing the comments both before and after the recent 64-65-66-67 reunion was heartwarming.  You still keep in touch, and I urge to continue that.

Good thoughts to you all.

Wow, what a great summer! I must admit I am sorry to see the rain but I know how much we need it. I hope you all enjoyed the warm weather as much as I did. Our son Cam just bought a bit of waterfront property on the sunshine coast so of course the logical thing Jim must do is buy a boat.... Bring On Another Thousand $$!! We are looking forward to helping them clear etc.It will have to wait awhile as both our boys are in Dubai for a couple of months working on Star Trek. We usually spend a few months camping in Arizona but this winter we are staying home - low Canadian dollar and alot of elbow grease needed on the boat. Will miss seeing some of the Creston gang - imagine, having to travel to Yuma to connect with classmates!                                         That's it, I just thought the message forum needed new stuff. Tell us what you did for the summer.... any trips etc? I hope the forest fires didn't cause serious personal problems.

I understand that Lois (MacIntosh) Currie passed away a few weeks ago in Creston. She was part of the Class of 64 and married Ian Currie who also graduated from PCSS. Lois e-mailed me a few months ago to say her cousin is a friend of mine, living here on Saturna, and that Shirley Bell's husband, Dougal MacDonald, is also her cousin. She was ill for some time.  I send my condolences to Ian and family.

My condolences to Ian & the others in Lois's family, as well. When we were in our teens, Lois spent a lot of time with our family in the summers - picking fruit, hanging-out & doing sleepovers with Luanne, and etc. Her parents had a tent or a cabin in the lakeshore subdivision beside our farm. Although Lois & I have not communicated since those years, I am still quite saddened to hear of her passing.

Can anyone who currently resides in Creston, advise me whether there is a community choir active in Creston at the present time? In the alternate, what other choir groups or singing groups are active? I assume most of the churches will have choirs???? Singing is one of my hobbies and given that I am considering returning to Creston  permenantly next summer, it would be nice to know whats happening in Creston in this regard.

The Fort St. John Community Choir has from 40 to 80 members at anyone time. Most recently our numbers have been around 65. This year, our choir was one of only 2 in Canada invited to sing  Handel's Messiah at Carnigie Hall and 55 members chose to make the trip to New York for the Nov 29th performance (this coming Sunday). The stage fee was in the neighbourhood of $900 Cdn per person (separate from travel & lodging costs). The Fort St. John community sponsored $40,000.

Unfortunately our Choir Director, Racheal Casponi, had to follow her husband and his work to Kamloops. While I am aware of the choral opportunities in Kamloops having lived there for 20 years and having sung with the Rangemen for 18 of those years.......I am not anxious to move back to Kamloops.

Allan
